A Poughkeepsie woman has been arrested after she allegedly stole over $6,000 in unemployment benefits.

New York State Police from Poughkeepsie arrested 27-year-old Heather C. Rogers of Poughkeepsie. She’s been charged with 3rd-degree for grand larceny, 1st-degree offering a false instrument for filing and 1st-degree falsifying business records, all felonies.

Police have accused Rogers of stealing over $6,000 in unemployment benefits between March of 2012 and July of 2012. Police say Rogers created false business records that certified each week that she was unemployed when she was actually gainfully employed.

The arrest is the result of a joint investigation conducted by the New York State Department of Labor and the New York State Police.

Rogers was arraigned before the Town of Pleasant Valley Justice Court and released on her own recognizance. She is due to appear in the Town of Poughkeepsie Court on February 2, 2016.
