President Oprah Winfrey?

After her acceptance speech at the Golden Globes on Sunday night, a new buzz surrounded Oprah Winfrey. Her speech came across as politically driven and after watching it I'll admit I felt inspired. But, that is the job of public speakers, especially someone as well-known as Oprah.

Media outlets swarmed all over this speech implying that Oprah may run for Presidential office in 2020. I'm not jumping on any bandwagons here as my personal political focus is local. But this idea is not that far-fetched as the Democratic Party lost their previous presidential election to a celebrity.

Is this going to be a new trend in the political arena, and more importantly should it be? As a nation, it appears most citizens are tired of the same politicians making the same promises and failing to follow through. In my opinion, we are only seeing the beginning.

Over the next two years, I won't be surprised if we see a few more potential presidential candidates that have never held a political office but can rally voters with their public speaking skills.
