Putnam County can now join the list of Hudson Valley counties that have professional sports teams. Last week, the Brewster Bulldogs became the newest franchise to join the Federal Hockey League.

According to Hudson Valley News Network, the county has franchise owner Bruce Bennett to thank for bringing the team to Putnam County. Bennett told HVNN as he was getting ready to retire he wanted something to do:

“I didn’t want to sit around and watch the birds.” ... “So I learned the game, but more importantly I fell in love with the players.”

County Officials are also very excited to bring some family fun to the area:

"We’re really excited to have the Brewster Bulldogs open up here in Putnam County," beamed Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell. "Putnam County is really ready for this opportunity. Family affordable entertainment is what we’re looking for."
