Say hello to Betty. Unfortunately she was struck by a car in the City of Poughkeepsie earlier this week. She went over 48 hours without any medical care. Her owner unfortunately couldn't afford the costs of her care and had no choice but to seek help. Aid came in the form of The Hudson Valley Animal Rescue Sanctuary in Poughkeepsie.

Instead of euthanizing the dog, surrendering Betty was the better option for both Betty and her former owner. However, the orthopedic surgery required was going to cost $3000. They posted her photos and story on HVARS Facebook Page.

HVARS was founded and initially funded by Celie Wiltse and the day to day operations are handled by her daughter Samantha. They don't like asking for money but this was a large expense for just one animal.

“$3000 out of our pocket is a lot of money,” Celie Wiltse Founder of HVARS.

After uploading Betty's photos, all the funds were raised in less than 24 hours.

“It was so exciting, I can’t believe we have that many followers who care about these animals as much as we do.”

As this article is being written, Betty is undergoing her surgery and is expected to make a good recovery from her injuries. Betty will be spending a good amount of time with HVARS but eventually she will need a new forever home.
