The New York State Police have the Putnam County Sheriffs Office K9 to thank for a recent arrest.

According to a New York State Police press release, Deputy Vincent M. Dalo and Sgt. Timothy C. Keith who are apart of the K9 Unit, were called to a scene on the Taconic State Parkway in the Town of East Fishkill.

They were called in to assist the New York State Police in looking for a male suspect who took off on foot into the woods. During that time, the NY State Police were investigating an incident with a single vehicle that involved property damage to a 2002 Black Lexus that had New York plates and was found in a ditch in the northbound lane of the Taconic State Parkway.

After Officers were told what direction the suspect was heading they put Lex, the K9 on the job. Lex tracked down the suspect for approximately one mile. The search ended at a private residence, where two cars were parked in the driveway along with a fresh set of footprints.

Sgt. Keith approached the vehicle and found the male suspect trying to hide. 52 year old Mark Anthony Cahill of Fishkill, NY, was asked to get out of the vehicle "at which
time, he complied and was taken into custody without further incident."

Cahill was charged with driving while intoxicated. and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
