Twenty-two years to the day that you gave your life, Dutchess County will honor you. Deputy Sheriff Erik Renninger went to work on October 9, 1992, not knowing that it would be the last day of his life. Responding to a call that a car was leaking gasoline,  Erik parked his cruiser, got out of the car, and proceeded to walk across the road to investigate. It was then he was struck and killed by a car. You have not been forgotten. Dutchess County is proving this to you, as they will rename a section of the DC Rail Trail in your honor. The bridge that crosses over Titusville Road in the Town of LaGrange.

The dedication ceremony will take place, 10/9/14, twenty-two years to the day that you made the supreme sacrifice at 11am.
