One of two active steamboats left in operation the country will be making it's way to the Hudson Valley on a trip that's expected to cost millions. Hudson Valley One reports Kingston will be the temporary home of the SS Columbia while it undergoes a full restoration.

Built in 1902, the 208 foot steam powered vessel will be moored on Rondout Creek, but not until 2018. It is currently undergoing stabilization work in Buffalo at Silo City, which will continue in 2017.

The SS Columbia must then be towed to Kingston more than 2,000 miles down the St. Lawrence River. The ship will then head to the mouth of the Hudson and head to the Hudson Valley. All in all, the trip is expected to cost between $4 and $5 million. The full restoration will cost between $15 and $20 million.

Unfortunately the ship won't be staying here permanently but we can go visit it in a few years when they've fixed it all up. The SS Columbia is expected to operate out of New York City.
