There are those days when you can barely get out of bed because you are so sick. Maybe it's food poisoning? The flu? Here are a few other reasons to tell your boss you are taking the day off. They have even been tested by others and pretty creative.

A new CareerBuilder survey shows one of the more outrageous sick day excuses given in the past year was "a worker who said he got on a plane accidentally".

  • Close to 30 percent of employees calling in were brazen enough to say they just didn't feel like working, needed the day to relax or wanted to catch up on their sleep.
  • More than ten-percent cited bad weather as the reason they needed to stay home.
  • Other noteworthy examples are the employee who said their plastic surgery needed tweaking and the one who woke up in a good mood and didn't want to spoil it.
  • Another worker's sick day excuse was his uniform caught fire when he put it in the microwave to dry.

Here is also a bit of advice from the survey, those workers who are "sick" might want to stay away from posting something online about how they lied about being sick.  About one in four employers have caught those lies by checking social media.
