According to an article on poughkeepsiejournal.com, Karen Smythe says she will run for a seat on the NY State Senate. She's looking to serve the 41st district.

The seat is currently held by Republican Sen. Sue Serino who was elected in 2015. Karen Smythe is a Democrate and is currently the Executive Director of the Beatrix Farrand Garden Association. Her goal is to help local small businesses in the area which she feels the current legislators are neglecting.

“Hudson Valley families and businesses, especially the small businesses that are the backbone of our community, are being underserved in Albany and I am running because we deserve better,” said Smythe.

Karen Smythe plans to start her campaign with an event being held at Paula's Public House on March 7th. The event starts at 5:30pm

Regardless of your support for politics, I do recommend checking out Paula's Public House, it's a new bar and restaurant that offers a unique dining and drinking experience for the mature consumer.
