A Hudson Valley college was recognized as one of the best colleges in the country.

On Monday, U.S. News & World Report released their annual "Best Colleges" rankings. Marist College ranked 8th on the Best Regional University—North list.

Marist has been recognized as a top ten Best Regional University—North college in the past, but 8th is an all-time high for the college.

“We are focused on student success. Over the last several years, we’ve substantially expanded our offerings for both undergraduate and graduate students, so we are pleased with this recognition," Vice President for Enrollment, Marketing, and Communication Sean Kaylor said. “Our emphasis on quality teaching, hands-on educational experiences, and a global perspective really make Marist a compelling choice.”

U.S. News & World Report places colleges into four regions: North, South, Midwest and West.

U.S. News also ranked Marist as the #2 Most Innovative School in the North. The rankings are developed based on surveys of top academics, college presidents, provosts and admissions deans, who were asked to nominate the schools making the biggest innovative improvements in all aspects of their institution, officials say.

“This ranking is particularly gratifying because Marist has long been a trailblazer,” Executive Vice President Geoffrey Brackett said.

Also in the North region, the college placed second for Best Colleges for Veterans, ninth in Best Undergraduate Teaching and 38th for Best Value Schools.
