It's summertime and in cities and towns all around the country, that means road construction season. We've all seen the signs and you may even have had to add some extra time to your commute to account for construction zones on your way to and from work.

For residents of Monroe, road construction is about to hit very close to home, and that's actually a good thing, because it means safer structures to drive on. Starting Wednesday, July 5, the state will begin to replace the current bridge over the Heritage Trail. It is estimated that the work will be completed sometime in November.

What does this mean for traffic going in and out and around Monroe? It will certainly be impacted, but the New York State Department of Transportation will not only have detour signs up around the area, they have also provided detour maps to help everyone out.

Thanks in advance for your patience during this construction.
