Route 9 is closed to traffic on Wednesday morning in both directions due to a serious accident.

Hudson Valley traffic reporter, Nancy Reamy, says the accident is affecting traffic throughout southern Dutchess County. Backups have spilled over to Route 84 in Fishkill near the closure.

The accident shut down Route 9 in both directions near Clove Road in Fishkill. Cars have been redirected between Fishkill Road and Route 84 causing major delays and backups throughout the area.

A Medivac chopper was on the scene to help with the extraction of at least one person involved in the incident.

There is no word on when Route 9 will be reopened or how long an investigation into the accident will take. Stay tuned for further updates as they are available. In the meantime, you'll want to avoid Route 9 in Fishkill South of Route 84.
