Sarah’s Favorite Sessions Artist of 2016

We've had some impressive artists come and go over the last two years of WRRV Sessions but why was this year a little extra special for this jock...well I'm glad you asked!

Even if you didn't ask it's fun to share little things here and there about ourselves. So this way we're more than just a voice coming from a box or a snazzy cover photo that's 10 years old...what...you mean I don't look that fabulous anymore. Maybe in 2017. But back to the story at hand.

WRRV Sessions has really been a magical creation and not only for our listeners but for the WRRV staff as well. Live music, bands, entertainment, it's all at the heart of what we do. And sessions is the perfect way to bring those aspects of the industry to life. This is why I am always begging you to check out sessions, that and awesome beer.

Many of you have been asking me what my favorite act was for 2016 and this year it may surprise you. Many thought I'd say the Dirty Heads since I got to hang out with them after the show, eat veggie burritos, shoot the breeze and get slaughtered in foosball. Side question...does anyone know why are Californians so good at foosball?? Seriously, they're so good it's just not natural!

But I'm getting off track. So yes the Dirty Heads were amazing. The show, the guys, the experience...great but if you're thinking they're my favorite...you're wrong! I know shocking. In fact my favorite may come as a surprise, it was...drum roll...

Switchfoot!

I know you're asking yourself...but why Sarah? Why was Switchfoot your favorite? I'll tell you why. It's not simply because they're super amazing, talented Grammy award winning artists who've been around for over two decades but also because they're so down to earth, true to themselves as artist and yes, you got me..there is also a special connection to another radio DJ, my Uncle "Kid" Raider.

I didn't know this at the time of the performance but my Uncle, who recently passed away, had also meet and interviewed Switchfoot more than a decade before. It would have been amazing to chat with him about his experience but I'll just have to settle for a sweet side by side photo array and the amazing feeling it brings me to know i'm following in his footsteps.

So yes they have a special edge on the competition but that my friends is why Switchfoot was my favorite WRRV sessions artist in 2016. Here's to you Kid and here's to another amazing year with WRRV Sessions!
