A Saugerties grandmother was arrested after police say she endangered the welfare of 3 grandkids.

Saugerties Police responded to a 911 call at 119 Nelson Hoff Road for a report that two young children were spotted in their pajamas at the address with no adults in the area.

An investigation determined that the children were in the care of their grandmother and wandered from her home, located at 89 George Saile Road in Saugerties, for an unknown extended period of time.

Police say at some point, 50-year-old Bertha E. Whispell realized the children were gone and left her home to look for them. However, she allegeldy left an infant alone inside her residence, with no one else to care for the infant.

Police say, Whispell also failed to notify any emergency services that the children in her care were missing.

Whispell was arrested and charged with 3 counts of endangering the welfare of a child, misdemeanors. She was released on her own recognizance and issued an appearance ticket returnable to Town of Saugerties Justice Court on May 18.

Ulster County Child Protective Services was called and are continuing their investigation into the incident.
