Almost two years after a Dutchess County man was murdered, a second arrest was made.

On June 30, 2015, 21-year-old Shameik Floyd of City of Poughkeepsie was found lying on Mansion Street with a single gunshot wound to the head. He died a short time later.

On Friday, after an investigation by the City of Poughkeepsie Police Detective Bureau, the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office and the New York State Department of Corrections Office of Special Investigations Criminal Intelligence Division, 23-year-old Kaheem R. Cummings, a former Poughkeepsie resident, was charged with first-degree murder, two-counts of criminal possession of a weapon, two-counts of robbery, conspiracy and tampering with physical evidence, all felonies.

Last week, 23-year-old Trent Yant of Poughkeepsie was charged with second-degree murder, two-counts of criminal possession of a weapon, two-counts of robbery, conspiracy and tampering with physical evidence, all felonies.

Police didn’t say how their investigation linked Cummings and Yant to the murder.

Cummings was arraigned in City of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded back into the Custody of the New York State Department of Corrections.

The investigation in the murder is continuing, police say. Anyone with information is asked to call the City of Poughkeepsie Police at 845-451-7577.
