After a few days of high heat, humidity, and air quality alerts, Mother Nature is kicking up her heels and the National Weather Service has issued several weather watches as a result.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm warning for Southern Dutchess County in effect until 4 pm this afternoon. The concern with this system is that parts of the county could see wind gusts as high as 60 mile per hour and quarter sized hail, which could lead to down limbs and power lines as well as damage to vehicles.

The National Weather Service has also issued a Special Weather Statement for Ulster County and Northern Dutchess County until 4 pm, as a strong thunderstorm capable of producing wind gusts up to 40 mile per hour is moving through those areas.

The remainder of the Hudson Valley is still under a Hazardous Weather Outlook statement, which the National Weather Service issues when they are concerned with the possibility of storms. For this afternoon into this evening, there is concern that some strong to severe storms could move through these areas bringing with them damaging winds and large hail.

If you see severe weather developing in your area, please take cover and be safe before you report your conditions to the National Weather Service.
