A high-risk sex offender who's considered a "Sexually Violent Offender," is accused of hiding in the Hudson Valley.

On Friday around 2:10 p.m., members from the Kingston Police Department arrested 49-year-old Calvin Buford for failure to register/verify as a sex offender, a felony.

Buford left his last place known home in September 2018 and did not notify the Kingston Police Department. Registered sex offered are required to tell police of an address change.

Buford's last known address was in the backyard of a Hudson Valley elementary school.

The Level-3 Sex Offender is labeled as a "Sexually Violent Offender," on the New York State sex offender's database. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison around 2002 for having a lewd and lascivious act with someone younger than 16 and attempted sexual battery with someone younger than 12 in 1991, according to the New York State sex offender's database.

Level-3 Sex Offenders are considered to have the highest risk of a repeat offense.

He was arraigned in City Court and remanded to Ulster County Jail on $1,000.00 bail pending a future court appearance.
