Tragedy struck over the weekend upstate in Tupper Lake in the Adirondacks.

According to the Daily Freeman, two brothers in their 60s have died after their snowmobiles went through thin ice in the lake.

Stephen Sattler, 67, and his 64-year-old brother, Edward Sattler, both from Blasdell, which is near Buffalo, had been staying at a family camp in Piercefield in the Adirondacks for a snowmobiling weekend.

Police and forest rangers started to search for the brothers after a family member reported them missing Sunday evening around 6:30 p.m.

After searching for a while, authorities found the brothers bodies around 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Raquette Pond section of Tupper Lake in the village of Tupper Lake.

Tupper Lake Mayor Paul Maroun told the Plattsburgh Press-Republican that three other men went through the ice in the same area of the lake on their snowmobiles Saturday and were saved by a fellow rider.
