Snowmobile Safety Courses Coming to the Hudson Valley

Have you ever noticed how interesting the word 'snow ' is?  You either love it or hate. For some it's a four-letter word but to others, say winter sports and outdoor enthusiasts, it’s the greatest word in the world. With winter just around the corner, it’s time to make sure you have everything ready to enjoy the white stuff, including brushing up on safety tips for your winter gear, including snowmobiles.

According to The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, snowmobile riders between the ages of 10 and 17 are required to complete the New York State Young Operators and Adult Certification Course. They also recommend this course for adults who are new to the sport or who want to brush up on their skills.

Each course is free and are taught by experienced snowmobilers who volunteer their time to make sure everyone stays safe and has fun all winter long. Courses are held at various locations throughout the state and three of those will be held in Ulster County.

According to Ulster County Sheriff Paul J. VanBlarcum , topics will include proper riding habits, safety equipment, and laws and rules of the trail. Each session runs from 9-5 and will be held at the following locations:

Saturday, December 3 at the Tillson Firehouse on 5 Tillson Road
Saturday, December 10 at the Marlborough Court House on 21 Milton Turnpike in Milton.
