If you think about it, you can probably come up with a few places here in the Hudson Valley that could use a speed limit reduction or maybe a speed limit increase.

It looks like the Town of Ulster in Ulster County in taking the reduction road in hopes of preventing accidents.

According to the Daily Freeman, the town is asking the state Department of Transportation to do a traffic study of Route 9W to figure out whether or not speed limits should be reduced.

The area of 9W that the town wants looked at is between Lake Katrine and the Saugerties town line, between the QuickChek gas station and Bread Alone. The speed limit is currently 55 mph there and the town wants it reduced to 45 mph.

The town also would like the speed limit dropped from 45 mph to 35 mph between Bread Alone and the Saugerties town line.

Town of Ulster Supervisor James Quigley told the Freeman that the request for lower speed limits is being made in response to complaints from town residents about excessive speed in these areas.
