Are you ready to channel your inner Yogi Bear and head out for a picnic? The spring air has me thinking of packing a meal and heading to the great outdoors.

Nowadays, picnics are more than my Mom's flattened bologna sandwich. I have even heard of a type of picnic referred to as an "Alpine Lunch." Basically, that is a fancy term for a basket packed with hard breads and cheeses and probably a bottle of wine.

So whether you want basic sandwiches or you are planning a full culinary outdoor experience, grill and all you will need a destination. I have suggestions for some great Hudson Valley locations. Plan ahead because some won't be grill-friendly, but they are all worth the trip with a blanket, some friends and some great food.

Minnewaska State Park is a great place to do the backpack version of the picnic. You can hike the park with your lunch on your back. Then pick the perfect place to stop off for a meal on the trail. It will be an afternoon full of what the Shawangunk Ridge has to offer.

Trophy Point West Point has a season that begins in June. By that I mean their Music Under the Stars starts in June. Pack a full picnic and come early so you can pick out a spot with one of the most breath taking view in the Hudson Valley. As the sun goes down you will enjoy music and an unforgettable evening with the West Point Band.

Other places to consider in the Hudson Valley included Bowdoin Park, Bear Mountain State Park and Tivoli Bays.

I want to go on a picnic with Martha. She has the packing down and you know the food will be good. But seriously this video has some cool ideas.
