Steamboat Service Could Return To The Hudson River

The Hudson Valley may take a trip back in time as steamboat service may return to the Hudson River.

According to the Daily Freeman, a historic steamboat could be coming to the Hudson River. The SS Columbia was a steamboat built in 1902 in Michigan, could carry almost 1,500 people on the Hudson River.

Currently, the ship is in Buffalo for repairs and restoration. The plan is for the ship to take a voyage on the St. Lawrence Seaway to then head up the Hudson River to The Roundout in Kingston for further repairs. While the ship is being repaired, it would be open to the public, according to the Daily Freeman.

The Daily Freeman reports that there are rumors that the SS Columbia will dock in New York City, but head up the Hudson River to Kingston weekly or twice a month, offering passenger trips up and down the river. However, it was noted that Kingston cannot currently dock a ship that holds 1,500 people.
