A teacher in the Hudson Valley was sent to the hospital after the educator was allegedly beaten by a student.

On Thursday around 2 p.m., the City of Newburgh police officer assigned to the main campus of Newburgh Free Academy as the Community Resource Officer was notified about an assault that occurred against a teacher by a student.

The teacher was assaulted by a student inside the high school's cafeteria, police say. The unnamed teacher was transported to St. Luke’s hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries sustained during the assault.

Following an investigation, a 17-year-old male from Newburgh was charged with second-degree assault. More information regarding the alleged assault wasn't released. We will update this story if police release more details.
