Construction on the Newburgh Beacon Bridge is expected to end early in the fall. Meanwhile construction on the Tappan Zee Bridge is halfway there. (Some would add living on a pray)

Up to this point, most of the work has taken place below the water but now construction is becoming more visible.  Sections of steel girders are going up, along with concrete supports for the roadway.  Work has also begun on the main towers of the bridge which is considered a major milestone for the 4 billion dollar project. By the end of the year, the goal is for all construction to occur above the Hudson River.

LOHUD reports that the rising of towers and big blue steel is what’s in store for the rest of 2015.

Workers have started construction on the bridges eight angled towers. Each that will stand over 100 feet, which is 10 stories higher than the current Tappan Zee Bridge. The towers should be visible to commuters by the end of 2015.

Workers are also installing giant blue steel girders. The steel beams will offer support on the new bridges road deck, in both Westchester and Rockland counties. However, most of the girders will be visible in Rockland. The beams are expected to reach close to South Nyack.

Weather permitting, work is expected to continue well into December. Construction is still on schedule for the first of the bridge’s two crossings which is expected to be open to traffic by December of 2016. The other crossing should be completed in late 2017.
