A San Antonio-area high school football team was not happy with a particular referee. Now their method of voicing their grievances has two students suspended and facing criminal charges.

They care a whole lot about high school football in Texas, don't you know? Enough that there are entire TV series based around how life in small town Texas is profoundly affected by the outcome of Friday night games.

But occasionally things get taken to whole new levels and get out of hand. In this case, a player for John Jay High School in San Antonio absolutely obliterated a referee by blindsiding him at the beginning of a play. To make matters worse, a second player on the team followed up with a hit when the official was already down.

As though it couldn't get any worse, the officials then accidentally threw the wrong player out of the game and one of the original players--on the very next play--was assessed a 15 yard penalty for a late hit on the opposing quarterback who knelt to run out the clock.

Here's the video, with some analysis from ESPN.
