We're heading into one of the most joyous times of the year, flu season. Here are three reasons Hudson Valley residents should consider getting their flu shot.

  1. Don't be one of the 140,000-200,000 people hospitalized for the flu every year. In fact, one year more than 700,000 Americans were in the hospital for flu-like symptoms.
  2. The flu claims anywhere from 12,000 to 56,000 lives each year. If a simple little shot can prevent that, it sees like a no-brainer.
  3. Not getting the shot means you can be a flu carrier. The best gift you can give your family, friends and co-workers is health. Don't be the person who brings the flu into your neighborhood.

It's best to be proactive and get your shot before the flu starts to spread because it can take as long as two weeks for the flu vaccine to take effect. And its good to keep in mind, even if you do get vaccinated, it's still possible to get the flu, but it's best to not take chances and protect yourself where you can.
