So, Oasis dropped an album back in 1997 by the name of "Be Here Now". It sold like crazy when it first dropped, but as the album has aged it hasn't been as well thought of. Lazy and over indulgent are some of the nicer descriptions used. Apparently, the band was going through some of the side-effects of over night success thanks to "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?"

Regardless, the album sold over 8 million copies worldwide.

The first single of the album was "D'You Know What I Mean?". That chorus is about one of the most recognizable ones out there, and it's immediately recognizable. How he actually came up with the lyrics, Noel Gallagher said this "I was going to make up some profound statement in the chorus but I couldn't come up with anything that fitted. Then I just thought "All my people right here, right now, d'you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah." Very vague, very ambiguous, that'll do. Look in the mirror and wink while you're singing it and it's quite saucy."

The first single to the follow up of an album that would eventually sell 20 MILLION COPIES, he came up with the lyrics thinking about how people might feel, being sexy in the mirror, while they said them.

Complete and utter genius.

The song was a huge hit, hit #1 in the alternative charts in America, #1 in the UK, Canada, Finland, Ireland, Japan and Spain. The single itself went platinum in the UK, selling over 700k units.

I love this damn song. Happy Throwback Thursday.
