The Times Herald Record is reporting that emergency crews were called to the scene of a serious crash on Route 17 A near the intersection with Pumpkin Hill Road in Warwick. The crash happened about 2:30 p.m Thursday.

Witnesses say the wreck was caused when a car went off the roadway, over a railing and down an embankment. Reports indicate that the car ended up landing on its roof about a hundred feet where it left the roadway.

Resident Daniel Ramirez said he was outside in yard when he saw the car go airborne, according to the Times Herald Record. Ramirez went to the female driver's aid and opened the door. Then he says she handed him her toddler.

Ramirez said his wife took the baby into their house so the child wouldn't see what was going on. Fortunately, he says that the child appeared to be okay.

Warwick firefighters and other departments were on the scene working to rescue the driver. A medical helicopter was called to fly her to a trauma center.
