A traffic stop in Ulster County led to the arrests of 3 residents. Police say cocaine, heroin, needles, and marijuana was found.

Following a traffic stop on Washington Avenue in Kingston, 37-year-old Eli P. Root, of Kingston, Rebecca E. Struber, and Michael J. Cook, both 31-years old from Saugerties were arrested on drug possession charges.

According to the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, officials recovered over a half gram of cocaine, 24 decks of a substance that is believed to be heroin, hypodermic needles, and small amount of marijuana. Root also allegedly tried to hide a hypodermic needle in the seat of a patrol vehicle before being transported for processing.

Root was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, 5th-degree tampering with physical evidence, felonies, possession of an imitation controlled substance, criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument, misdemeanors, and a violation of unlawful possession of marijuana. Root was held pending arraignment.

Struber and Cook were both charged with 7th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor. Both were released on appearance tickets to reappear in Kingston City Court at a later time.
