The Transformers have always been sneaky little miscreants. Their whole thing is that they’re “robots in disguise,” masquerading as cars or trucks or dinosaurs to better blend in with their surroundings. We know that they’ve been coming to Earth for a while now, and the new Transformers: The Last Knight promises to tell us why. The new tease for a trailer coming on Wednesday shows us that Anthony Hopkins may know the answer.

Hopkins, who’s playing Sir Edmund Burton in the movie, seems to have some mysterious knowledge of how, and why, the Transformers’ history fits in with our own. This, coupled with another teaser video that came out on Thursday, reimagines a world in which our history was dictated by the Transformers’ actions.

Thursday’s video, with Anthony Hopkins’ narration once again, adds Autobots into photos from microfiche, or film containing images of old newspaper pages. It would seem that the robots have been influencing our conflicts for some time — but how?

The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager; Bumblebee; an English Lord; and an Oxford Professor.

Transformers: The Last Knight hits theaters June 23.
