We're back in the swing of things here in the Hudson Valley when it comes to the school year. I think the next holiday schools get off for is Thanksgiving, so the school year can really get moving.

With that being said, we know that were surrounded by some of the best schools here in New York State. Back in May U.S. News and World reported that the Hudson Valley was home to 30 of the best high schools in America out of over 28,800 public schools.

Two of those Hudson Valley schools can now add National Blue Ribbon Schools to their resume.

On Monday October 1st, it was announced that Spackenkill High School in Poughkeepsie and Clarkstown High School South in West Nyack were named National Blue Ribbon schools.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools program "recognizes outstanding public and non-public schools."  The program, which has been running for 35 years, gives the award to 8,500 schools across the U.S.

According to the National Blue Ribbon website "the program celebrates school excellence, turn around stories, and closing subgroup achievement gaps." Throughout the year  principal and teacher leaders of Blue Ribbon schools "are called on to give presentations at state, regional, and professional meetings about the practices that have made a difference for their students and faculty."

Congratulations to both schools on their new achievement!
