NeighborhoodScout has revealed their 2016 list for the 100 most dangerous cities to live in the United States. Two places from the Hudson Valley are on the list.

NeighborhoodScout developed their 2016 100 most dangerous places to live by analyzing cities in america with 25,000 or more people. Researchers then looked into the number of violent crimes per 1,000 residents. According to the research, violent crimes include murder, rape, armed robbery, and aggravated assault. Data was used by the population of each city and the number of violent crimes reported to the FBI in that city.

In 2014, Newburgh was in the top 10 for most dangerous cities in America. In 2015, Newburgh moved out of the top 10, to 15th. This year, the Orange County town ranks as the 14th most dangerous city in the United States. According to NeighborhoodScout, with a crime rate of 48 per one thousand residents, Newburgh has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime in Newburgh is one in 21.

Poughkeepsie ranked as the 83rd most dangerous city in America. The Dutchess County city placed 85th in 2015. The chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime in Poughkeepsie is 1 in 30.

Two other New York cities cracked the top 100 list. Niagara Falls placed 38th, Buffalo 36th. NeighborhoodScout ranked East St. Louis Illinois as the most dangerous city in America.
