The Ulster County District Attorney's Office has released a few tips this week to help people minimize the possibility of internet dating scams.

According to a press release, here are a few of their suggestions:

  • Use a reputable dating site, not just a chat room or a free dating site.
  • Beware of people who are sending emails that are not seeming to follow any of your previous conversations.
  • Avoid going out on a date who asks you for money, or for you to send them money in advance.
  • Do not give out any of your personal information. This includes your home address, phone numbers, etc.
  • Do you only see one photograph on their profile? Feel free to ask for more photos. If this is a 'fake' person they won't be able to give you a second or third photo.
  • Don't be afraid to 'go with your gut'. If something about the whole situation just seems 'off', it probably is.

Have you ever tried internet dating? Do you have a few tips that you would like to share?
