Distracted driving is becoming more and more of a problem in today's gadget geared world. Don't get me wrong, technology is a wonderful thing however using that technology while behind the wheel is not only illegal, it's deadly.

If an effort to help combat these ever growing bad habits behind the wheel Ulster County has teamed up with AT&T to help educate the public on the dangers of using your smartphone while driving. How can they do this you ask? Simple, by having visitors step behind the wheel of a 3D virtual reality simulator, experiencing firsthand the dangers of distracted driving.

"When you’re behind the wheel, everything can change in the blink of an eye. A post, a selfie, a text, a scroll, an email—one look is all it takes. This simulation shows the consequences of glancing at a phone while driving in a 3D fully-immersive experience"

According to research conducted by AT&T 7 out of 10 people engage in dangerous smartphone activities while driving. Texting is no longer the only danger to consider, people are emailing, posting, snapping pics and more. With the help of the simulator AT&T looks to create awareness about the dangers while encouraging drivers to keep their eyes on the road, not on their phones.

This free event will take place this Saturday, August 13th at the AT&T Store on Ulsters Avenue in Kingston. The simulator will be unveiled at 11am with the event wrapping up at 5pm. For more information on AT&T's 'It Can Wait' campaign check out www.ItCanWait.com
