An Ulster County man has been arrested after police allege he sold ecstasy to undercover officers in the Town of Ulster. Police say other drugs were found on the suspect at the time of his arrest.

In late 2015, members of the Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics team (URGENT) received a tip about narcotics being sold by a Saugerties resident. Police say an investigation was conducted and undercover officers purchased ecstasy (MDMA) from the suspect in the Town of Ulster.

On January 26th, URGENT located and arrested 36-year-old Raymond J. Portuondo, of Saugerties. Portuondo was charged with 5th-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, two counts of 5th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, sale of MDMA, and quantity of cocaine, all felonies. Police say Portuondo in possession of the cocaine when he was arrested.

Portuondo was arraigned in the Ulster Town Court and released to reappear at a later time.

URGENT was assisted by the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit and Saugerties Town Police.
