An Ulster County man was arrested after authorities say he tried to murder a police officer.

New York State Police at Ellenville charged Cory Larson, 32, of Cragsmoor with attempted murder of a police officer, reckless endangerment, menacing a police officer, all felonies, and criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.

On Tuesday, State Police were sent to a home for a report of several unwanted people trying to gain access into a private residence. Police say the caller, Larson, requested police come to his residence for assistance.

As authorities approached the home they were allegedly met with gunshots coming from inside the residence.

After an exchange of gunfire, officials say Larson emerged from the home unarmed. An investigation revealed that Larson was the only person at the residence and there was no indication people were trying to gain access.

Larson was taken into custody without further incident or injury. He was arraigned at the Town of Wawarsing Court and was remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail. Larson is due back in court on May 27.
