A Milton man accused of scamming shoppers in Hudson Valley parking lots has been taken into custody.

Town of Ulster police say Terry J. Monroe, 56, would approach people in a parking lot and ask for a jump. He would then ask for a ride before allegedly pressing the driver for money. No threats were issued, but people felt compelled to pay him because of the uncomfortable situation, police said.

Town of Ulster Police Department received numerous reports of the parking lot scam in July and August.

Town of Lloyd police located Monroe in the Highland area on Tuesday and took him into custody. Monroe was charged with fraudulent accosting, as well as for an active warrant from the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.

His bail was set at $2,500 bail.
