Following reports of an erratic driver, an Ulster County woman was charged with felony drunk driving and drug possession.

On Sunday around 5:45 p.m., Ulster Police answered a 911 call about an erratic driver on Frank E. Sottile Boulevard. A car was soon stopped on Miron Lane.

The driver, 46-year-old Shantal M. Carter, from Napanoch was found to be driving while intoxicated, police say.

Carter is also accused of being in possession of a controlled substance, Suboxone, without having a valid prescription for it.

Carter was charged with driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired by drugs, both felonies, and 7th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Carter was also charged with traffic infractions for passing a red traffic signal, failing to stop at a stop sign and failing to signal a turn.

Carter was charged with felony counts of driving while intoxicated because she was previously convicted for driving while ability impaired by drugs within the last 10 years, police say.

Carter was issued several uniform traffic tickets and an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Ulster Justice Court.
