An unlicensed Newburgh teenager crashed his car near West Point after leading police on a high speed chase in two counties.

On Monday around 2:20 a.m., City of Newburgh Police tried to stop a black Ford Taurus. The driver, later identified as 19-year-old Shaheem Seda of Newburgh, didn’t stop and fled the scene, officials say.

Seda headed north on Route 9W. Once in Marlboro he reversed course and headed back towards the City of Newburgh. The high-speed chase continued until Seda crashed his car while trying to negotiate the exit near West Point’s Stony Lonesome Gate.

Seda was taken into custody and transported to St Lukes Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released to authorities.

Seda was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, a felony, unlawfully fleeing a police officer and aggravated unlicensed operation, misdemeanors, and a number of traffic violations.

No one else was hurt in the crash, police say.

City of Newburgh Police were assisted by New York State Police, Town of Newburgh Police, New Windsor Police, Highlands Police, Cornwall Police and Village of Cornwall Police.
