A Wallkill man has been arrested and charged with strangling a child.

According to an Ulster County Sherriff's Office press release, Michael Mitzner, 29, of Wallkill was arrested on a warrant for endangering the welfare of a child, criminal obstruction of breathing as well as for the violation of harassment.

The investigation began on July 19 after the Sherriff's office received information that Mr. Mitzner had struck a child and then proceeded to place his hands around the child's neck, which impeded the child's breathing.

On July 26, at approximately 11:30AM deputies located Mitzner at his home and took him into custody.

Mitzner was released on his own recognizance with an order of protection being issued. He is scheduled to return to court on August 18th.
