Three days after the US Military Academy at West Point was placed on lockdown, parts of the academy had to be evacuated due to a bomb scare.

On Thursday morning, a man told West Point officials that a car contained a suspicious package which contained a bomb. The bomb report forced the evacuation of the Visitors Control Center outside of the academy.

Members of the New York State Police and State Police Bomb Disposal Unit responded to the scene, the vehicle was searched and no explosive device was found. The visitors control center was reopened a short time later.

The New York Post reports that according to West Point spokesman Lt. Col. Christopher Kasker, the area was evacuated as a precaution.

No charges were filed at this time, but police are continuing their investigation.

On Monday morning, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point was in a full lockdown due to the weekend bombing in New York City.

Someone reported that they spotted a car and a driver that matched the description of Ahmad Khan Rahami, the alleged New York and New Jersey bomber.

Police didn’t find anyone that matched Rahami’s description and the lockdown was lifted.
