Now that the Supreme Court has opened the door for sports betting, where and when will you be able to start wagering in the Hudson Valley?

Yesterday the Supreme Court opened the door for all states to make sports betting legal. New Jersey is expected to be the first state to start taking bets. According to the New York Post, sports fans in the Garden State may be able to make wagers in time for the NBA finals this month.

And it looks like New York might not be far behind.

There is already a law in the books that allows the state's four new casinos to start taking bets on sports as soon as the Supreme Court lifted the ban. Even though the ban has now been lifted, Governor Cuomo says that lawmakers will still need to vote before the betting can begin.

As for the Hudson Valley, new legislation will need to be made to allow sports betting at nearby OTB locations and racinos. It's widely accepted that the law will pass, but it's not clear when that will actually happen. Some believe that the new legislation could be ready to sign as soon as next month.

When that happens Hudson Valley residents will be able to bet in time for the World Series at any racino or local OTB. Here's a list of the Hudson Valley locations: where sports betting would be allowed:

  • Monticello Raceway
  • Georgie O's Sports Bar in Hyde Park
  • Sal's Place in Highland
