Whooping Cough in Sullivan County

It seems like whooping cough cases are on the rise in Sullivan County.

According to the Daily Freeman, cases of pertussis, more commonly known as "Whooping Cough" have almost doubled in Sullivan County since June 30th.

The Public Health Department told the Freeman that back on June 30th there were 10 confirmed cases of whooping cough and as of July 15th, there were 19 confirmed cases and 33 suspected cases.

The Health Department also said that all of the people that have been diagnosed are being treated.

Whooping cough is a highly contagious disease that is spread through the air by cough. It usually starts with cold symptoms and a cough, which becomes much worse over one to two weeks.

If you any symptoms including a cough, you should go to a health care provider immediately and if you are found to have it, you will need to complete all antibiotics before you can return to work, school or community functions, so that we can reduce the spread of the disease to others.
