Can you figure out why the principal of a Hudson Valley grammar school has disciplined this this 11-year-old student for his appearance?

That's the question his mother, Jade Boyce, is still asking after getting notice that her son was in trouble for a second time. Boyce's son, Tommy, attends Holy Trinity School in Poughkeepsie. The problem seems to have something to do with the student's hair.

According to Boyce, the school says that the hairstyle depicted in the photo provided is against school policy. Boyce believes that it's a little more than that,

Honestly, we think the school is picking on me via my kids... We look different than the other catholic school parents.

Jade and her husband, Mike, are the owners of Queen City Tattoo in Poughkeepsie. They believe their son is being unfairly judged because they're "covered in tattoos." Boyce says the principal has told her son that he was not allowed to have shaved sides on his hair. After his latest haircut Tommy's parents have now been called in to meet with the school.

Looking at the photo it's hard to see anything inappropriate about the haircut. In fact, it seems to resemble a clean-cut, "Leave it to Beaver" style. In an age of mohawks and purple bangs it's not hard to see why Boyd may be a bit confused over the hubbub.

According to a copy of the Holy Trinity School guidelines on hair, makeup and jewelry provided by the family, "unbecoming haircuts" are not permitted. In addition, the rules also forbid "shaved heads, fad hairstyles or ponytails for boys."  This seems to leave a bit of ambiguity. Some may argue that having a "high-and-tight" haircut is a far cry from sporting a "shaved head." And while it's possible the principal could find the style "unbecoming," there are many business professionals walking around with similar styles.

We want to know what you think about Tommy's hair. Do you believe the 11-year-old student deserves disciplinary action over his hair or is the school making more out of this than necessary? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below or on our Facebook page.
