You may have seen or heard five fighter jets flying near the Hudson River at around 5 p.m. Friday. You weren't alone

Residents reported hearing the jets all the way from Dutchess and Ulster to Westchester County and Manhattan.

So what was going on?

According to the Poughkeepsie Journal, the group were part of the F-16 Fighting Falcons from the 100th Fighter Squadron. They are part of the Tuskegee Airman Squadrons who flew in Europe during Word War II.

The jets were reportedly flying in the "missing man" formation in honor of the late Dr. Roscoe Brown Jr.

Dr. Brown recently passed away on July 2 in the Bronx, at 94 years old. Brown received a number of accolades for his service including the Congressional Gold Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross

He was also quite the trailblazer, being one of the first African Americans pilots.

Thank you for your service, Dr. Brown.

The jets had used Stewart Airport as a pit stop before flying north.
