Wineries Sued Over Containing Arsenic

It may not be the sulfates giving you that wine headache after all! Four California residents have filed a lawsuit against 28 California wineries that claims their wines contain unsafe levels of arsenic. That's right, arsenic! Now before you get too crazy a lot of food/beverages normally contain small levels of the chemical and currently the US wine industry does not have specific boundaries for wine production. According to the NY Daily News the lawsuit states that tests by three independent labs found that in some cases arsenic levels in certain wines were 500% higher that what is considered safe for consumers.

BUT WAIT...before you dump that box of Franzia down the drain experts say those comparisons were based on levels considered safe for drinking water, not wine. The lawsuit states that out of 1306 bottles of wine tested 83 had excessive levels. The wines listed in the suit are brands that generally fall between $5-$10 a bottle...odds are if you listen to my crappy show you're in the same price range per bottle I am so we're all screwed.
