Everyone knows how backed up and congested the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge can get.  There's got to be an easier way to get from one side of the Hudson to the next, unless you want to spend the time waiting for a ferry from Beacon to Newburgh.

Well, how about a ride aboard a tramway (or gondola lift) high above the Hudson?

This is one of the ideas floating around the recently re-elected U.S. Representative Sean Patrick Maloney's head. The Times Herald says that Maloney shared his thoughts on the matter with the press after Election  Day.

Imagine a Hudson Valley where you had high-speed gondola service connecting Stewart Airport to Newburgh to Beacon – maybe even extending to the top of Mount Beacon for tourists.

This could be like the Roosevelt Island Tramway, the service that runs from Manhattan to Roosevelt Island. This is all part of Maloney's reelection goal to strengthen infrastructure which could help ease transportation for commuters. Maloney says the service could boost economic growth as well as bringing more tourism to the area.

Makes sense this would be an issue he's passionate about considering he's part of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee,

Here's what a ride on the Roosevelt Tramway is like:

According to Wikipedia, there's a slight difference between a gondola lift and a tram.

- A gondola lift has cabins suspended from a continuously circulating cable whereas aerial trams simply shuttle back and forth on cables.
