2016 brought some RIDICULOUSLY good shows to your TV, and 2017 looks like it's about to bring the awesome back. Considering my proclivity for science fiction/fiction and fantasy type stuff to being with, I figured I'd bring you my top 3 shows you need to catch in the new year.

3. Sherlock. The ONE BAD THING about Sherlock is how short the seasons are. 3 episodes, and you're done for 18-24 months. It draws you in, and unceremoniously dumps you on your ass approximately 240 minutes later. Regardless, it's one of the few shows I watch that I DVR and rewatch over and over again. I also rewatch all the previous seasons before the start of every new run. The only reason I don't have this at the top of my list is that the season is so short. It's seriously one of the most brilliant pieces of television I've ever seen.

Airdate: January 1st, PBS

2. Grimm. Grimm started off like a house on fire. An intriguing concept, with plenty of action and crazy interpersonal relationships. It felt like it got a little weird in the middle few seasons, but season 5 was completely packed with adrenaline, a return to a really interesting plotline and the crazy development of a lot of characters that I simply didn't see coming. A big reason for this being on my #2 spot is that I've invested a lot of time in watching the series already, and season 6 is going to be the finale one of the show.

Airdate: January 6th, ABC

1. The Magicians. SyFy clobbered me with this show. The books by Lev Grossman were widely described as "Harry Potter for adults", and the show did not disappoint. There was magic, sex and violence. Plenty of intrigue, crazy interpersonal relationships and tons of hardship for all the characters. It got dark, FAST. The season 1 ending knocked me completely on my ass, and it tackled some SERIOUS societal issues as well. Obviously, some of the characters are back, but I can't even imagine how they're going to reconnect all the story lines. It's a must see, and it's #1 on my list.

Jaunary 25th, SyFy
