Your Child’s Artwork Could Be Featured Throughout New York State

Do you have a budding artist in your family? If he or she is in the 5^th grade, they could have their artwork featured in next year’s New York State Arbor Day Poster contest.

The theme is all about bees and how important they are to the ecosystem. They enable us to have fruits and vegetables, flowers and trees. Students will design and create an original poster with each elementary school choosing a winner to advance to the regional level. At that point, 9 regional winners will be selected to compete at the statewide level, where one winner will be chosen.

According to the New York Department of Environmental Conservation, the winner will be invited to attend a celebration at the state capital in Albany where they will have a tree planted in their name at their school. Plus, the New York State winner will have their artwork featured on NYS Arbor Day Bookmark, which is given to schools and libraries across the state.

Almost 2000 children participate each year and have the chance to win other prizes throughout the competition. Plus, as the children create their poster, they also learn the importance of trees and how they impact our quality of life.
