Are you looking to take charge of your health and make a change? Northern Dutchess Hospital will be hosting a National Diabetes Prevention Program coming up in April.

Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Program in Rhinebeck, NY

Northern Dutchess Hospital has been providing a free National Diabetes Prevention Program for the last 10 years and is passionate about helping participants lower their risk of type 2 diabetes.

During each meeting, those who attend will be given access to trained lifestyle coaches, CDC-approved handouts, group support, and working throughout the classes to make healthy changes to their lifestyle. Nutrition counselor, Roufia Payman and exercise trainer Marie Monroe lead the hour-long, free, classes.

Each meeting will also allow participants to share their progress, success, and even recipes they've been using. The National Diabetes Prevention Program is a yearlong program with 16 weekly meetings and a bi-monthly follow-up meeting.

What is Type 2 Diabetes? Stats and Facts

According to the CDC about 1 in 10 Americans have diabetes, around 38 million people, and "approximately 90-95% of them have type 2 diabetes." Type 2 Diabetes is when your cells don't respond normally to insulin and when that happens your pancreas makes more insulin trying to get the cells to respond.

The CDC explains "Eventually your pancreas can’t keep up, and your blood sugar rises, setting the stage for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes."

In most cases, Type 2 Diabetes is found in adults 45 and older, however, the CDC is reporting that more and more cases are being found in children, teens, and young adults.
